Biography

Marcus is manager of numerical modelling and optimisation section at TWI Ltd. He obtained his first and PhD in Materials Science & Metallurgy, Cambridge. Then he was a Scientist at BP Research Centre, Sunbury; Process Technologist and Process Technology Group Manager, Hexcel Composites, Duxford. He joined TWI Ltd as a Senior & Principal Project Leader, and Composite Materials Technology Manager, TWI, and in 2009 he became Manager of Numerical Modelling and Optimisation Section.

His main role is management of section of ten finite element analysts and project management of various collaborative projects. TWI Core Research Programme Manager for Structural Integrity, Materials, NDT and Non-Metallics. Business development for the Numerical Modelling Section and for the Integrity Management Business Group.

Biography

Steve became Group Manager of Metallurgy, Corrosion & Surfacing Group in January 2011. Steve is also the China Programme Manager for TWI, with a strategic responsibility for developing businesses for TWI in China.
Steve joined TWI in 2001 with a PhD in Materials and has experience in a range of metallic materials.

He has managed projects concerned with laser materials processing and joining of high strength steels, with particular involvement in laser and laser-arc hybrid welding, in-process monitoring & adaptive control of laser welding, resistance and laser welding of high strength steels.

Biography

Tat-Hean Gan has 10 years of experience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Condition Monitoring of rotating machineries in various industries namely nuclear, renewable energy (e.g. Wind, Wave ad Tidal), Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Construction and Infrastructure, Aerospace and Automotive. He is currently managing a group of 80 staff with turnover of over £8million.

He established the NDT technology roadmap for the group covering (TWI Validation Centre- Wales, NDT and LRU sections and Plant Integrity Limited) with activities varying from Research and development to commercialization in the areas of novel technique development, sensor applications, signal and image processing, numerical modelling and electronics hardware.

He is also managing the Integrity and Inspection Services business, where he promoted Total Quality Inspection (TQI) as part of the ASPIRE programme to improve inspection working practices used in Risk Based Inspection and Fitness for Service assessments. His experience is also in Collaborative funding (EC FP7 and UK TSB), project management and technology commercialisation.
